Tongkat Ali: What The Research Actually Shows
Tongkat Ali is HorseWood's flagship ingredient, included at a 100:1 extract equivalent to roughly 1,000mg of raw root powder.
It is one of the more research-backed herbal ingredients in the male vitality category — here is what the evidence actually shows.
A long traditional history
Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is a Southeast Asian herb with a long traditional-use history in supporting male vitality, energy and stamina.
What modern research suggests
How it is thought to work
Researchers theorize Tongkat Ali may help interrupt testosterone's binding to SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin), a protein that increases with age and binds an increasing share of circulating testosterone, making less available for the body to use. Freeing up some of that bound testosterone is the proposed mechanism.
What the evidence does not support
Tongkat Ali is not a treatment for erectile dysfunction or diagnosed low testosterone (hypogonadism), and it does not replace prescribed hormone therapy. Its effects, even in supportive studies, are modest and gradual, not dramatic.
Applying this to HorseWood
HorseWood includes Tongkat Ali at a 100:1 extract ratio, equivalent to roughly 1,000mg of raw root powder — a meaningfully-dosed amount consistent with amounts used in supportive research. See our full ingredient breakdown for how it fits alongside the formula's other six ingredients.
